Timber Trail Resorts, by road!

Not so much as a travelogue, it was more of a Sunday outing.
Sharing some pics (edited and decorated for posting on SNS) ..

About the resort:
Official Website: Timber Trail Heights
The resort is primarily a hotel, in an isolated location, with all modern facilities available. Adjoining is a yoga-cum meditation center. I didn't get time to check it out though.

The hotel has ample greenery around it to make you forget the urban feel. The gardens are well maintained and have small ferry rides to keep the kids amused, a nice restrobar to eat/ drink etc and an open seating area, which IMO, was superb.

Didn't inquire room tariff, but the food was reasonably priced. It was at par to any posh restaurant in the city. And the food was deliciously cooked too.

My Review:
I think this place is a suitable alternative to Kasauli/ Shimla, for those looking for a weekend picnic uphills (6-7 hrs). But one must take courage to drive through the narrow lanes.
On a rainy/ cloudy weather, the place can offer surreal views and a cozy ambiance to enjoy the day away from hectic routine.

About the road:
- Just after the Parwanoo Toll (old road), there's a board which says "EICHER SCHOOL 1.5 kms"
- That turn takes you straight up to the Resort, "Timber Trail Heights", which people generally reach through the Gondola (which costs a whooping 800 per person on weekends)
- The initial 5-7 kms are rocky, courtesy the factories on that stretch and the heavy truck movement
- Beyond that, the road is single lane but tarred and can be done easily in a maruti/ alto
- The last 2-3 kms are tough again. You basically take a right turn that leaves the former road and thus begins the steeper climb. The loose rocks might make it difficult for smaller vehicles to climb.
- My i10 struggled at that patch, which was about 100 mts long (steep, laid with round loose rocks/ gravel). I had to reverse about 200 mts and come back again. Third attempt and I was through. But it was on a clear sunny day with only loose rocks creating the trouble. Might get real bad during rains.
- But the distance from this place to the resort isn't much. One can park the car near the turn and walk. Will take 15mins. Tops.
- It took us a little less than 2 hours to reach to the top from Chandigarh.

Some Pictures

The good road!

This thing grows on pine trees! It was fresh, had the natural glue around its ends, made things sticky for me from hereon!

The not-so-good roads

Parwanoo and the new bypass prominently visible!

The Resort!

The road which leads to TT Heights!

IMO, when they talk about reading a book on a rainy day, with a coffee by the side, this is the location, that comes to one's mind!

The resort, from the road!

Such dry, spooky trees are aplenty on the road. The valley is deep, and full of these trees! Maybe they will get green by the time monsoon arrives!

Kinnaur - The Land of Apple Blossoms!

Leg 1: Narkanda - Kalpa
Day long ride, but fun nonetheless. Metaled roads, scene valleys and snow capped peaks! What else could I ask for.

It takes about 2 hours from Narkanda to Rampur, another 4 of those to RekongPeo, with a couple of bad patches of roads around Raksham, where JayPee hydro projects are running and finally an hour or so from Peo to Kalpa.

Plenty of stay options in Kalpa, just enjoy the mighty Kinner Kailash views and soak in the peaceful environment.

Kalpa - Chitkul
Chitkul, the last village in India on Tibet border, falling entirely in the beautiful Sangla valley. I'd reckon Sangla is the most picturesque valley I've ever seen. Rupin river, snaking its way out of the deep gorges simply leaves you breathless.

Also, considering Chitkul is at a reasonable height (about 3600mts ASL), its usually covered with snow capped peaks around the year.

A must visit place for everyone!

Chitkul - Chandigarh
And the return journey through Sarahan, the quaint little town hosting the Bhimakali Temple, offering some amazing views of the Himalayan magnificents!
